Are you in the dark?

The question and a purple dog have popped up around Gainesville for the past few months—showing up on billboards and Facebook ads along with newspaper and radio spots

Pavlov Media put the mystery around the advertising campaign to rest on Wednesday as it announced its residential and business fiber optic expansion.

Cory Douglas, CEO of Pavlov Media, said the company is here to light up people’s lives with fast internet connectivity. Pavlov Media already operates in 44 states and has 30 years of experience in the field.

“We genuinely believe in the power of connectivity, and what it can do to positively transform the communities,” Douglas said.

The company isn’t new to Gainesville but has primarily served the university area in the last 10 years. Pavlov Media has historically serviced universities and campus housing, and now the company is expanding to residential areas, primarily in northwest Gainesville, with services coming online in the coming weeks.

Douglas said the expansion project started in June 2023 and nearly 560 miles of fiber optic cable has followed.

“The physics behind fiber are all about communications at the speed of light, so we thought, well, if you don’t have fiber then you’re in the dark,” Douglas said. “So that was the whole genesis for that campaign.”

The high speed and reliability of fiber will help customers confidently work from home, Douglas said. And as homes experience technological transformations—with wireless doorbells, cameras, vacuums and thermostats controlled by cell phones—high speed connections will be more vital.

Or, Douglas said gamers might just want low ping to stop lagging and start winning online games.

The company advertises four packages: up to 1 gigabit per second for $69.99, up to 2 gigabits per second for $89.99, up to 5 gigabits per second for $119.99 or up to 8 gigabits per second for $189.99.

“Through our platform, we’re looking to strengthen the community by making it easier for you to communicate with one another,” Douglas said. “With the technology we have, you’ll be able to attract new businesses knowing that they will have an instant platform to be able to connect to fiber and take advantage of high-speed internet services.”

Driving around northwest Gainesville, Pavlov Media crews can be seen digging with spools of fiber waiting to go underground. In other parts of northwest Gainesville, IQ Fiber is also installing fiber. IQ Fiber announced last year that it had started installing fiber.

AT&T and Gainesville Regional Utilities also offer fiber in areas of Gainesville.

Do fiber companies have any limitations on running fiber multiple times? Between Cox, GRU, AT&T, IQ, and now possibly Pavlov, my front yard is looking like the front line. They try and do an OK job, put many flags, clods of clay etc. are left. When someone wipes out in a hole not properly filled, and injures themselves, maybe the lawsuit will make them pay more attention to the private easement replanting.

If Pavlov could change up their creepy, jarring, uninformative TV spots, that would be great.

I urge everyone considering Pavlov Media to take a few moments and Google reviews from their customers.

based on the prices alone, Pavlov has my attention. I hope I can try the service soon as they’ve already professionally dug through my yard, and I can’t even tell. no data cap is the way to go!
