The Florida Department of Health in Alachua County (DOH) announced Thursday it is accepting COVID-19 vaccination appointments for children ages 5-11.

Vaccinations will be available starting Monday, Nov. 15, and appointments can be made by calling 352-334-8810. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Getting a free COVID-19 vaccination prevents expensive and painful hospitalizations,” said DOH Alachua Administrator Paul Myers. “Getting vaccinated protects family, friends, and those one comes into contact with.”

Myers announced at the Alachua County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) meeting Tuesday that he was expecting the first vaccine order to arrive this week. He added that parents can make appointments with their local pediatricians who have already received their doses.

Area CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are also taking appointments and administering the lower dose to children.
