More residential gunfire hits Lake City

The Lake City Police Department (LCPD) responded to gunfire at a residence around NW Galloway Place at 10:02 p.m. on Monday.

According to an LCPD press release, the homeowner told officers that someone had been ringing the doorbell repeatedly, but the owner didn’t answer because the home had been previously targeted with gunfire.

The owner stayed behind interior walls and called out to the person at the door, LCPD reported, but received no response. The owner’s adult grandchild then looked out a front window, and someone outside began firing into the home.

No one was injured in the incident, according to LCPD. Officers processed the scene and found the gunfire damaged a vehicle on the premises.

The police department asks anyone with information to contact the department at (386) 752-4343.

The shooting continues a wave of gun-related incidents in Lake City in recent months. Last weekend, Lake City police responded to another gunfire report at midnight and recovered 9 mm, .40 caliber and .223 casings.

On May 11, investigators arrested a 15-year-old for an October homicide.

On May 3 the Lake City Council voted to fund cameras in city parks to promote safety.
