The Hipp Unplugged staged reading series will return to the Hippodrome Theatre on Monday featuring “Bootycandy.”
The performance is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Hippodrome Cinema stage.
“Bootycandy” is a semi-biographical subversive comedy written by Robert O’Hara and directed by Elaina Walton. The comedy soared onto the New York theatre scene at Playwrights Horizons.
In the play, Sutter is on an outrageous journey through his childhood home, church, dive bars, motel rooms, and even nursing homes. O’Hara combines scenes, sketches, and bold meta-theatrics to portray what it is like to grow up Black and gay.
A New York Post article said about “Bootycandy” that it’s, “Sassy and saucy! You may never think of the words ‘booty’ and ‘candy’ the same way ever again.”
Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or through the Hipp website.
