Keep Alachua County Beautiful (KACB) will be holding an MLK Corridor Historic Home Beautification Event to help transform the historic Fifth Avenue to the Pleasant Street neighborhood of Gainesville.
The event will take place from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 738 NW 7th St.
The MLK Corridor Historic Home Beautification Event will be restoring a Gainesville home and preventing its deterioration.
“When a house is left vacant, it is no longer serving as a useful component of society and becomes a blight to the neighborhood,” said Gina Hawkins, executive director of Keep Alachua County Beautiful, in the press release. “Vacant houses are not only an inefficient use of resources, but they contribute to our housing shortage.”
The primary focus of the event will be exterior beautification, landscaping, and the removal of mildew and algae growth on the exterior pine siding.
The house at 738 NW 7th St. is still in good condition with essential utilities like air conditioning, a water heater and a stove in working order. The KACB is accepting donations of a refrigerator and a washer and dryer for the home.
All necessary supplies will be provided, and participants must register in advance at www.kacb.org. Closed-toe shoes are required for safety, and attendees are encouraged to bring a personal water bottle to stay hydrated.
