Gainesville holiday season underway with 8 concerts ahead

There can be no doubt. Thanksgiving Day, with its plethora of specialty songs and hymns, is over and Christmas music can start. Not that anyone was waiting for permission.  

Gainesville organizations have posted their upcoming holiday concerts for the community to enjoy. See which one fits your schedule or consider a concert crawl through the city this season.  

The concerts are presented in chronological order with information available online.

Joy to the World—A Christmas Concert 

Presented by Grace Bible Church, this concert will happen on Thursday, Dec. 5 starting at 7 p.m. It’s a free event and will happen at the UF Baughman Center on Lake Alice.  

The concert will be a night “filled with joy, adoration, and the uplifting sounds of Christmas.” 

Gainesville Youth Chorus Holiday Concert 

Singers from 7 to 18 years old will celebrate the season in this annual concert happening at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.  

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 and is free for the public.  

Gainesville POPS Christmas Concert 

Performed by a local wind ensemble, the concert will happen at First United Methodist Church of Gainesville on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. 

Gainesville POPS! formed in 2008 and performs a series of free concerts each year. 

Unity Holiday Concert 

Hosted by Unity of Gainesville, this concert will feature live music, caroling and holiday cheer on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. The church is located at 8801 NW 39th Avenue. 

Annual UF Carillon Studio Holiday Concert  

This outside concert will take place at Century Tower, with listeners encouraged to find a spot at least 100 feet from the tower.  

The event will happen on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 1:55 p.m. and should last 45 minutes.  

The Carillon Studio is a group of students dedicated to continuing the UF tradition of playing inside the tower, and they do it every school day along with concerts throughout the year.  

1000 Voices of Florida, INC: Holiday Unity Orchestra and Choral Concert   

Featuring dancers, dramatizations and cultural representations, UF’s Phillips Center for the Performing Arts will host community organizations that come together for this free concert.  

The event takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. 

Annasemble Holiday Concert 

The Annasemble Community Orchestra of Gainesville will present holiday tunes from around the world with refreshments afterward at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville.  

The event will take place on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. 

Holiday Harmonies XI – A Musical Celebration 

A joint venture between the Gainesville Harmony Show Chorus and the Barbergators Chorus, the concert will raise funds for Stop Children’s Cancer.  

The concert will happen on Saturday, Dec. 14, with a 3 p.m. show and a 6 p.m. show. Tickets cost $15 for students/seniors and $20 for adults.
