Thinking about getting a pet for summer? Alachua County Animal Services (ACAS) is here to help.

On Wednesday ACAS announced it is waiving pet adoption fees through Thursday, June 10. That gives you more than a week to go pick out a furry friend free of charge.

“Adventures are always more fun with a pet,” ACAS supervisor Jane Grantman said in a statement. “Start your summer adventure off on the right paw with a pet along. Dogs make great hiking partners, camping companions and many are into water sports. Adopt today and blaze a new trail.”

Animal services headquarters is located at 3400 N.E. 53rd Avenue in northeast Gainesville. Operating hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

ACAS requires pet adopters to be at least 18 years old and show an ID with proof of current residence.

“If there are already pets in the home, the potential adopter must show proof that owned animals are current on rabies and license,” an ACAS press release said.

All animals available for adoption are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before leaving the shelter. To view the adoptable animals, visit the Alachua County Animal Services website or petharbor.com.
