Buchholz evacuated for bomb threat

Buchholz High School evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a bomb threat, but after sweeping the building, law enforcement found nothing suspicious, according to a release by Alachua County Public Schools.

Parents received emergency messages around 2 p.m. that reported the threat and where to pick up their children.

Many students evacuated to the Boys and Girls Club down the street. Others walked along 55th as traffic congested around the school. A number of students sat or stood in the lawn at Northwest Baptist Church with church staff offering bottled water and a seat in the air conditioning. Parents pulled into the church’s parking lot to pick up their children.

For a while, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office vehicles blocked 55th Street at 23rd Avenue to prevent vehicles approaching from that direction.

Jackie Johnson, Alachua County Public Schools information officer, sent an email at 3:28 p.m. that announced the all clear.
