Firefighters from multiple agencies extinguished a fire that consumed a 4,100-square-foot abandoned residential home in High Springs on Sunday evening.
According to releases from the High Springs Fire Department (HSFD) and Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR), HSFD personnel were dispatched at 7:33 p.m. to the area of NW 230th Street and NW 189th Avenue for a reported outdoor fire.
When crews arrived on scene, they had to cut a gate to access the property before discovering smoke and flames emerging from a large home, prompting an upgrade to a full residential structure fire response.
An HSFD brush truck was first on scene and started the firefighting efforts, but more than two dozen firefighters responded from HSFD, ACFR and the Newberry Fire Department, along with assistance from the High Springs Police Department and Duke Energy.
The fire was extinguished around 1 a.m. and the cause is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. There were no reported injuries and the fire was contained to the building of origin.
