The School Board of Alachua County, the City of Gainesville and the Alachua Board of County Commissioners will join forces today to discuss equity in the county.

The agenda includes equity in youth literacy, youth programming, transportation, broadband access and school rezoning.

“Hopeful there will be a universal commitment to work together for our citizens and our kids to bring about more equity in our community,” County Commission Chair Ken Cornell said Tuesday.

Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe said that the city commission plans on focusing on equity as it relates to broadband access, youth after and out-of-school programs, literacy and especially rezoning.

“My hope is that we are able to recognize how these areas are interrelated and that we have an opportunity to work cooperatively on a solution,” Poe stated.

The hybrid joint meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at the Alachua County Administration Building 12 SE 1st Street.

Public comment will be taken in person or by calling 1-800-876-7516. Facial coverings are required to be worn by attendees and public seating will be made available up to the capacity that permits adequate social distancing.
