GFR extinguishes daycare fire

An early-morning fire at Kid City USA daycare center sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday.

Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) responded to the blaze at 1127 NW 7th Ave. at 3:45 a.m., according to a release. When GFR arrived, it upgraded the status from a working fire to a commercial fire at the closed daycare center.

GFR deputy chief Joseph Hillhouse said one person received suffered minor injuries.

“We’re not sure if it was the building owner or the business owner or if they are the same person,” Hillhouse said.

Alachua County Fire Rescue transported the person to the hospital.

Firefighters arrived on the scene eight minutes after the call, searched the house for victims and extinguished the fire within 12 minutes of arrival. GFR indicated that the fire alarm system provided early notification to the owner and that the fire is under investigation.
