Madison County rallies past Union County 18-7

The Madison County Cowboys scored 12 fourth quarter points en route to an 18-7 victory over the Union County Tigers Friday night in the Class 1-A Region 2 finals.

Union County had been on an offensive tear the last four weeks, scoring in the 40s and winning four straight games, while Madison County seemed to hit their stride once the playoffs started, defeating Dixie County 48-19, and Hilliard 48-7.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Cowboys hit the scoreboard first with a second quarter touchdown and a 6-0 lead that they took into halftime.

Union County ends its season with an 8-4 record. Madison County improves to 10-2, and plays the winner of the Hawthorne-Wildwood game in the state semifinals next Friday.
