Packed SBAC agenda includes superintendent contract

The School Board of Alachua County will tackle a full agenda when it meets at 6 p.m. tonight.

The board will decide on approval of an employment contract for acting Superintendent Dr. Carlee Simon. If approved, the salary will be $175,000 during the first year and effective from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2023.

The board will also consider the adoption of new administrative and education support professionals job descriptions for the VPK Program. As the district begins implementation of a Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program that will begin at the start of the 2021-22 school year, several new positions are being proposed for this program.

The program will address the needs of 4-year-old children within the district and will make their transition to kindergarten smoother. It is anticipated that these new positions would be paid for through the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten funding.

The new job descriptions for these positions were developed in consultation with the Early Learning Coalition. With the program set to begin in August, the requested positions include:

– Coordinator—Family Community Engagement, Preschool

– Coordinator—Program Services, Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)

Those positions would be funded through reallocation from current vacancies within the district.

The board will also discuss an articulation cooperative agreement between the College of Central Florida board and the SBAC for 2020-2.

Under this agreement, students who complete a career pathways articulated program of study in career and technical education are eligible to receive college credit at the College of Central Florida.

The regular meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is held in person at the Alachua County Public Schools district office boardroom.
