The National Weather Service in Jacksonville issued a tornado watch for Alachua, Bradford, Marion and Union counties in North Central Florida, with 10 other counties also included.
The watch will last until 8 p.m. as the right weather conditions for tornado formation continue. In a special weather statement, the NWS said it was tracking a line of strong thunderstorms that stretched from Race Pond to Bell and was moving at 50 miles per hour.
The storms are bringing needed rain during a severe drought and could cause overnight temperatures to drop to 39 degrees.
