Gainesville High and Santa Fe (Alachua) led the way with three players apiece on the 2025 Bosshardt Realty All Area Softball team for big schools.
GHS overcame an 0-4 start to the season to win a district title and reach the region final, thanks to the return of pitcher Leanna Bourdage.
The sophomore was unable to pitch for most of the season, but she dominated once she returned to the circle and earned a spot on the first team as a pitcher.
“It was a tough season for Leanna this year due to injury, but she is a difference maker in the circle,” said GHS coach Chris Chronister. “Her injury also forced her to hit from the left side this year and she was still able to maintain a .400 batting average. She is a great competitor and has a warrior mentality.”
Bourdage only pitched 24.2 innings, but she walked only four and struck out 57 batters. She only allowed five earned runs and finished with a 1.42 ERA.
Although she only had 38 at-bats, her ability to switch sides at the plate played dividends as she batted .400 with 14 hits and six runs batted in. She led the team with 10 stolen bases.
Hawthorne transfer Madisyn Gillins made the first team as an infielder, while teammate McKenna O’Sullivan was selected as a utility player.
“As our lead-off hitter, Madisyn was the spark that got our offense going,” Chronister said. “She led our team in batting average (.483), on-base percentage (.595) and runs scored (26). She was also an excellent defender at shortstop, with great range and a great arm.”
Gillins, who tore her ACL in the district championship win at Deltona, also led the ‘Canes with a .783 slugging percentage (SLG).
But the unsung hero may have been senior McKenna O’Sullivan, who primarily plays third base.
The Santa Fe College signee logged 108 innings in the circle due to Bourdage’s injury, and she finished with an 11-4 record and a 2.64 ERA.
She teamed with Bourdage to strike out 14 in the district semifinals and a two-hitter in a win against Belleview in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. O’Sullivan and Bourdage also combined on a one-hitter in the regional semifinals against Springstead (Spring Hill).
O’Sullivan led GHS in hits (35), RBI (26) and doubles (12). She finished second on the team with a .432 batting average, a .500 OBP, and a .728 SLG.
“McKenna has always been the hardest working player on the team and her hard work paid off,” Chronister said. “She was a major contributor for us in the circle and at third base. She is one of the best hitters we have had at Gainesville High.”
Santa Fe had a pair of selections in the outfield in senior J’lyn Guyden and junior Madisen Crosby, along with sophomore infielder Maren Hornsby.
Guyden, who played error free ball in 2025, led the 3A-District 5 champion Raiders (19-4) in RBI (47), home runs (3) and SLG (.786).
The Florida Gulf Coast University commit was third on the team in batting average (.486), OBP (.535), runs scored (31) and she was second in hits (34).
“Very solid player,” said Santa Fe coach Gene Findley. “She always created RBIs for us and is very strong on the field.”
Crosby led the team with a .516 average, a .575 OBP and 32 runs scored. She finished third with 33 hits and second with a .781 SLG.
“She is ball smart,” Findley said. “She led the team on the offense side, so she was always a threat at the plate.”
Hornsby, who led the Raiders with 37 hits and 16 stolen bases, was second on the team with a .493 batting average, a .548 OBP and 32 runs scored.
“She is a competitor,” Findley said. “She always creates an offensive challenge for the other team and gets that extra base.”
Newberry, which won its first district title in a quarter century, placed senior Gracie Mattson on the infield and freshman Tristan Layfield in the outfield on the first team.
“Gracie’s former coach (Findley at SFHS) called her a ‘coach’s dream and a pitcher’s worst nightmare’,” said Newberry softball coach Michele Roundtree. “As the very lucky woman who got to coach her in her senior season, I can certainly confirm that notion. Gracie led our team in almost every statistical category, but more importantly she truly led our team with her positive attitude and unwavering effort.”
Mattson led the Panthers (20-6) in hitting (.525), hits (42), runs (39), triples (8), OBP (.635) and SLG (.838).
“Gracie is, undoubtedly, a phenomenal softball player as she was our lead-off batter for most of the season, clutch hitter, solid third baseman and could help in the circle when called upon,” Roundtree said. “I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to coach her in her senior season. She played the game with so much joy and in turn it was a joy to see her play.”
Layfield was second on the team with a .430 average, 40 hits, and 18 stolen bases.
“Tristan was our team’s ‘Golden Bat’ award recipient because of the productive chaos she would cause by merely making contact with the ball,” Roundtree said. “She has many tools as her ability to bunt, soft-slap, push-bunt, and power-slap were all advantageous for us as well as her speed. She is the fastest on the team which is saying something when you consider our other speedsters, seniors, Malana Kennard and Gracie Mattson.”
The future is bright for the freshman who was third on the team with 24 runs scored and a .559 SLG.
“Tristan’s youth never seemed to affect her performance as she commands a quiet respect in how she plays the game defensively and offensively,” Roundtree said. “Her competitiveness and work ethic pushed her teammates to hold themselves to a high standard as well. Tristan is also an awesome young woman to be around- always ready to help with our youth teams and participate in team volunteer work.”
Rounding out the first team are catcher Juliana Abraham of Buchholz, pitcher Harleigh Price of Columbia (Lake City) and infielder Emma Mansfield of P.K. Yonge.
“Juliana ‘aka Bear’ Abraham had another spectacular year offensively leading our team with eight home runs and an impressive 43 RBI (tied for 20th in Florida),” said Buchholz coach Will Hooper. “She finished her high school career with a .434 BA, 99 total hits, 22 doubles, 13 home runs and 92 RBIs.”
Abraham, who primarily played catcher and finished with a .948 fielding percentage, “improved tremendously behind the plate and controlling the game.”
“Bear is the type of player you can put anywhere, and she will work hard to do what’s best for the team,” Hooper said. “We will miss her, but look forward to watching her success at Hamilton College, New York.”
Price helped lead the Tigers (15-12) to the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs by tossing a one-hitter in four innings in a 16-0 mercy-rule win at Escambia (Pensacola).
“Harleigh is a fierce competitor when she gets in the circle,” Columbia coach Joe Saucier said. “She is tough on herself when she doesn’t hit her spots and it’s not a perfect outing, but I think that’s what makes her a great player and teammate.”
The sophomore finished the season with a 2.50 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched.
“One of the best things from this year about Harleigh, we had taken a pretty bad loss and I was upset with how we played,” Saucier said. “Harleigh grabbed me by the shoulders and said, ‘Coach, before you go talk to the team just know that the sun is going to come up tomorrow.’ I think that quick 30-second conversation helped me more than anything my entire first season. She is a great kid and better competitor.”
Mansfield, the final member of the team, is unique in that she also played on the Blue Wave varsity baseball team.
“I was fortunate to have Emma play softball when I took the job as PK Yonge’s softball coach because she grew up a true baseball player,” P.K. Yonge coach Daryl Mosley said. “The addition of her playing softball was vital to our team’s success during her high school years. The players alongside her elevated their own performance to make the program stronger and competitive. It will be exciting to watch her continue to grow at the next level.”
Mansfield, who made the team as an infielder but was recruited as a catcher and signed with Jacksonville University, had an area best .630 batting average with 12 doubles, five home runs, a .661 OBP, and a 1.261 SLG.
“Emma is more than a D-I athlete ready for college softball,” Mosley said. “Her hardworking off-field training positioned her to achieve was she has done so far. The focus on her academic path will lead to great success in her future.”
