A reported double shooting claimed a man and a woman at a NE 6th Lane residence in Starke on Thursday morning.
According to a Bradford County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) release, a 911 hang-up call was received at the Bradford County Communications Center at 5:15 a.m. at 15265 NE 6th Lane in Starke.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased male near the front entryway to the residence with a gunshot wound to the head. The deputies were notified of a woman who also resided at the house, but she was unaccounted for. On-scene law enforcement personnel formed an entry team to search the residence, but the woman was not found inside the house.
Deputies searched the surrounding yard and located an unresponsive woman with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck. Life-saving measures were started before the arrival of Bradford County Fire Rescue emergency responders arrived and pronounced the woman dead.
According to the release, preliminary investigation indicates this to be an ongoing domestic violence case between an estranged husband and wife.
This is deeply tragic news. The detail that the Sheriff’s Office suspects this shooting is related to ongoing domestic violence makes this situation even more heartbreaking. It really highlights how critical early intervention and support systems are in these escalating domestic situations. I wonder what resources were available to the family beforehand.
