Effective immediately, Florida has suspended the consumption of alcohol at bars.

Halsey Beshears, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Secretary, made the following statement on the FDOB twitter account:

“Effective immediately, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation is suspending on premises consumption of alcohol at bars statewide.”

The announcement came shortly after the Florida Department of Health reported 8,942 new coronavirus cases, which is the highest single day total on record.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has scheduled a 2pm news conference.
