Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance has launched a new website designed to provide residents with access to information, resources and opportunities to engage in local gun violence prevention efforts throughout Gainesville and Alachua County.
The website, which has been in development since late 2025, serves as a comprehensive archive, database and community calendar, according to a city of Gainesville press release. Users can access videos of Alliance stakeholder meetings, review local crime statistics, explore strategic planning documents and learn about programs and initiatives focused on reducing gun violence.
The Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance was established in 2024 through a memorandum of understanding among the city of Gainesville, Alachua County and Santa Fe College. The partnership grew out of a February 2023 motion by District 1 Gainesville City Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker declaring gun violence a public health crisis and calling for a collaborative community-based approach to prevention.
“From the beginning, this work has been about listening to the people most affected by violence and making sure their voices are heard,” Duncan-Walker said in the press release. “The new website is instrumental in moving those conversations forward. It gives all neighbors a chance to learn about the work, get involved and chart our progress.”
Over the past two years, the Alliance has convened monthly stakeholder meetings, developed a countywide strategic plan and supported the administration of grant-funded programs aimed at assisting youth and families. The new website is intended to make those efforts more accessible by providing a centralized location for information, resources and community engagement opportunities.
“The website gives our community a place to stay connected to this work,” said Brittany Coleman, Gainesville’s gun violence intervention program manager, in the press release. “Reducing gun violence requires sustained engagement. This platform lets us share information so everyone can easily monitor what’s being done across Gainesville and Alachua County.”
The site includes data from the Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, as well as links to emergency services, crisis support resources, volunteer opportunities and community programs. Visitors can also access information about upcoming meetings, public events and awareness activities organized by the Alliance and its partners.
According to the release, “The website brings new accessibility to the work of the Alliance, creating an online repository where neighbors can learn about prevention efforts, review strategic planning documents, watch archived meeting videos, and discover how to participate in upcoming activities.”
Alliance leaders say the website will continue to evolve as new resources, data and community engagement opportunities are added.
Whether holding annual events in observance of Gun Violence Awareness Month or hosting live performances and town halls, the Alliance continues building momentum around shared priorities and working to fulfill the policy direction set by members of the city and county commissions.
The website is now available through the Public Safety & Gun Violence Prevention section of the city of Gainesville’s website and is intended to serve as a central hub for residents seeking information about gun violence prevention efforts in the community.
