Amazon welcomed associates inside the nearly 75,000 square-foot building for the first time this month to celebrate its first day of operation. The delivery station has already created more than 50 new full-time jobs paying at least $15 per hour with comprehensive benefits packages starting on day one.
“During these difficult times, it is critical that our neighbors have the ability to get the resources they need in a safe and physically-distanced manner.,” said Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe. “Amazon is an important part of the supply chain and I thank them for their continued investment in Gainesville.”
The new delivery station will continue to power Amazon’s last-mile delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries and increase efficiency for customers in Alachua County. Delivery stations enable Amazon Logistics to supplement capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery capabilities.
Additionally, the Gainesville delivery station empowers five small businesses via Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner Program, creating hundreds of full time driver jobs. For independent contractors who want the flexibility to be their own boss and make their own schedule, there are also driver opportunities for Amazon Flex participants. As a part of the opening celebration and Amazon’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates, Amazon donated more than 6,000 meals to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. Associates from the new delivery station volunteered their time, sorting and packing more than 600 pounds of food to be donated to Gainesville community members in need.
“We are excited to continue to invest in the state of Florida with a new delivery station that provides efficient delivery for customers in the Gainesville area and new job opportunities for the talented workforce,” said Ashley Lansdale, a spokesperson for Amazon.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to see Amazon both invest in Greater Gainesville through the expansion of its Delivery Station and bring hundreds of new full-time distribution jobs to our region,” said Eric Godet Sr., President/CEO of the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce. “Amazon is helping the Greater Gainesville community by meeting customer needs. The result is a big win for Amazon and the people of our region.”
