Bev, Better Burger crew break ground in Newberry

Bev and the Better Burger crew broke ground on the Newberry location on Monday, starting the countdown to the opening.

In 1984, Beverly Miller opened the first restaurant in Alachua, and two High Springs locations, a café and drive-thru, followed. Miller said at the groundbreaking that she’s been wanting to bring her burgers to Newberry for years.

Following design approval by the city in November, Bev’s Better Burgers announced the new location would occupy a spot across from Oak View Middle School and facing SR 41.

Newberry Mayor Jordan Marlowe said the city supports its local businesses and will ensure the drive-thru line wraps around the building with customers.

Officials hope to open the eatery by early October. The menu will include burgers, sandwiches and soft-serve ice cream.
