Publix

A Publix Super Markets spokesperson confirmed on June 27th that employees at four store locations in Gainesville have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Media Relations Manager Nicole Maristany Krauss, “We can confirm that associates who work at stores 680, 735, 1312 and 435 have tested positive for COVID-19."

The stores are located at 3100 SW 35th Blvd. at Esplanade At Butler Plaza, 9200 NW 39th Ave. in Springhill Commons, 3930 SW Archer Rd. at Butler Plaza West and 5200 NW 43rd St. at Hunter’s Crossing.

“As an essential service provider, the health and well-being of our customers, associates and communities are our top priority,” Krauss said in a statement.

Employees who test positive are quarantined and will receive paid leave for 14 days to recover from the illness, according to Krauss.

This is a breaking news story, and it will be updated as more details are learned.

Publix supermarket at Tower Square atTower an Archer Road is not complying to the mask rule no one is checking as people come in people come and go without no mask on and no one is checking someone on the PA system is saying keep your distance but no one is paying attention and we wonder how this virus is spreading

Guest

I am a faithful shopper at Hunter’s Crossing, how do I know if I was exposed?

Guest

Is this one employee in each of four stores or multiple people in each store? How does this percentage match up to general population?

suzettecook

Publix would not reveal how many at each location.

Guest

Not even to us employees. Just found out today I was working with an actively sick coworker for most of a shift but because the deli prep area in the back does not have a camera they did not feel they needed to tell me or the others that worked with the person that day

Guest

Brown shirts are here.

This whole discussion is idiotic.

Fact, masks reduce transmission of the virus to people who dont have the virus and helps slow the transmission from people who may be positive and asymptomatic.

Fact, people's idiotic and narcissistic need to to be INCONVENIENCED by wearing a mask is risking lives.

Fact, you do NOT have a constitutional right to contradict a public health mandate.

Fact, I have heard people say the dumbest of things like this wearing of a mask violated their Christian rights....wtf? How?!?

Put on the mask already and shut up. You don't have to conform, but you do have to comply.

I have been to Publix at hunters Crossing and Trader Joe’s. Both places had people without masks. These were all younger people. That’s why I stop shopping there. Everyone at fresh market and Whole Foods had on masks. I had a Instacart but it’s a rip off. I will order my groceries with my prime membership and pick them up. No more grocery shopping for me.

Guest

Hi, you might have seen me and my son without makes, we both have breathing issues, please don't assume anyone not wearing a mask are doing it to to annoy you.

Guest

Thank you! 😖

Jeff

How did such a simple act of wearing a mask to protect public health become so political? Ignorance, selfishness, ambivalence, hate and cruelty on the part of POTUS sure doesnt help. I will not step another foot in Publix again until masks are required and enforced.

Guest

Only a lib has to make this political! Typical & predictable! If Trump cured cancer, you would find a reason to trash him! Smdh

Guest

And if he murdered an innocent person in the streets. His supporters would say it's his right or that person was an obama gate supporter.

Does anyone remember, No shoes, No shirt, No service ? So tired of hearing, It's their constitutional right not to wear a mask. And we can't be told what to do. Stop being selfish and wear the mask !

Guest

Requiring people like me with a disability should be a crime. How do these county Commissioners of Alachua County. Can mandate masks is ridiculous. The ordinance is not enforceable. I'm sick of business telling me to wear a mask.

Guest

They accommodate your “disability “ and non-mask wearing with the option of grocery delivery. Just stay home is you can’t wear a mask.

Guest

then dont leave your house! how selfish could you be!!

Guest

A private company can do whatever they want. Nut up or shut up

Guest

Don’t you understand if you are at risk then you shouldn’t go out and if you have to you of all people need to wear a mask. There are ways to adapt masks. Maybe you should wear ahhh face shield. If you get COVID. What are your chances of surviving??

Guest

Oh, please. I work with pulmonary patients in the hospital, and even they wear masks. If you are that sick, you need to either stay home or utilize curbside service - the only ADA accommodation they're required to make for you.

Guest

idiot

Guest

So get someone to shop for you. My daughter works in a hospital and was exposed to someone with covid because he refused to wear a mask (it was on his chart, he knew it, but lied when asked about it and somehow the other nurses/techs overlooked it). My daughter now has to wear a mask at home and quarantine until she can be tested in 5 days. Figure something out if you can’t wear a mask.

Guest

Stay home

Guest

But you wear shoes and shirt cause they tell u to...

Guest

Do you realize that its not just about your health, but the health of others around you. Don't be selfish.

Guest

You are being very selfish .

Guest

Who is to say that the Publix employees got infected from Publix? They could have contracted it anywhere & came to work like that. It's more scaring tactics. And it definitely works

Guest

Scaring tactics to what end though? Keeping more people from getting sick? There is no logic to that statement

Guest

Lucky for you they were wearing masks, then. Right? Do other people the same courtesy.

GuestGuest

If you can’t wear a mask, try a bandanna. They can be found at Waldo flea market dollar door or Ryals

Guest

Just wait until the college students return from South Florida...you think you have problems now just wait until then. Oh sorry, you won't object to 50k+ potentially infected students coming here and increasing the risk of infection here. Many of you are in bondage just as community leaders are - to the University of Florida.

Leslie Wooten

Your depiction of the relationship between the University and the City as being somehow toxic, is naive and lacks perspective. Obviously, both entities enhance each other, economically, culturally and in other ways. The education of young people cannot practically come to a complete halt. The University, lead by appropriate Med School faculty, will proceed in the optimal way to insure both public health and continuity of the kids's education. K

Guest

I am very interested in these new technologies that will change our life!

Guest

The University of Florida is interested in one thing and one thing only, to make money. They will bring the students back so they can justify a Football season.

Guest

I was in the Publix on Tower Square yesterday and the pharmacy tech who waited on me as well as the cashier at the register didn't have masks on. The bagger did and all other employees. I thought it odd and now even more of an issue.

Guest

I call bullshit! I saw every last pharmacy associate with a mask on. However I saw a lot of customers without one.

Guest

Personally I have been wearing a mask And gloves since the first of March. I don’t go anywhere unless it’s absolutely necessary. What is the big deal about staying home, geez. Take care of yourself and protect others. Stop being selfish. Wear a mask or just stay Home! Time flies anyway.

Guest

I don’t think that’s true. I personally know that you can’t work in either department without a mask on.

Guest

Been to Hunters Crossing twice last week to pick up prescriptions and no one behind the pharmacy counter was wearing a mask. Figured they must have some sort of exemption.

Guest

Lies! Lies! I saw all associates wearing one. However, few customers were.

Guest

I wss on Publix Hunters Crossing Friday and the pharmacist i talked to had on a mask as well sa the other person there.

Guest

Sounds like it is you that is lying. What, do you drive around to all the Publix inspecting the Pharmacy's?

🇺🇸

Your conceal , carry license is invalid with a face covering.JS.

Guest

This is incorrect. I have one, it is still valid as I wear my mask right now with my weapon concealed lol. Since you are such a legal expert lets see the statutes you are referring to? We are all waiting...

Guest

Not true. Quit spreading fake news

Jun 16, 2020 Please watch Vickie Nguyen infect a petri dish with bacteria by coughing on it. But with either paper, cloth or N95 mask- no bacteria grew out on the bacterial media. (To transfer actual COVID-19 you need living cells).

Guest

The problem with Publix is that they have no enforcement of the mask rule in Alachua County even though it's required. I contacted Publix and was told enforcement is the sole responsibility of the police. The police can't patrol the aisles continuously. Publix needs to ban everyone who refuses to wear a mask. Half the shoppers don't wear masks. Publix does nothing about it. Maybe a nice multimillion dollar lawsuit would change their attitude.

Guest

My husband asked the publix manager why they were.not enforcing the mask wearing policy. He said that he will not place his staff in a position that could turn violent because of the problems with people turning aggressive this was recently evident when a walmart greeter asked two.women to wear a mask and the woman was assaulted physically. One camt assume.now in this climate that people aren't violent for no.reason and that they care

Guest

Yah! Down with driver's licenses and traffic lights! Wait! How about the rights of those they are infecting?

Guest

Shop somewhere else. Typical "let me sue someone so I don't have to work person."

Guest

I was on public on main Street i saw countless people in there without mask on

Guest

It's a virus not bacteria

Guest

I have been to a Walmart in Gainesville, and I have seen them take the employees temperature as the entered for the day. They offer those without masks disposable ones. They offered to take my temperature, too, but I declined.( I donated blood and my antibody test came back negative. I had my temperature taken, etc. then.)

MaggieMay

Walmart in Butler Plaza turns away people one after the other if they are not wearing a mask. I've never seen their personnel shot, nor have I seen them treated rudely. And it is, yet again, mandatory in Alachua County to wear a mask and to social distance. And the number of people who cannot wear a mask due to health issues should not be walking around during a pandemic. It's too dangerous for them. Not to mention that a business has the right to turn away people from their business as long as it's not due to gender, race, religion, sexual preference, gender identification or disability.

Guest

Employees have no right to tell people to mask up. Publix is protecting their employees from getting shot by a angry customer. I applaud Publix.

Guest

Yet they still won't turn away shoppers without masks. I asked a cashier why and she said "that would be rude." Sigh.

Guest

I was told they were afraid of getting shot if they mandated masks.

Guest

It isn’t legal to do so, just as it isn’t legal to mandate a face covering. Sure, it’s sound practice to wear a face covering. And, individuals are afforded constitutional freedoms and rights, which include not being told what to wear. Further, there is no evidence to support people who are wearing masks wouldn’t wear masks if there was no ordinance. And further yet, there are individuals who have medical conditions preventing their wearing of face covering a.

Guest

Please point out where the Constitution gives us the right to wear, or not wear, whatever we choose? Masks fall under same policy as no shirt, no shoes, no service where stores can refuse you. No one is forcing you to wear a mask - you just can’t enter a private business or endanger others in public if you refuse to wear one.

Guest

These statements are idiotic!

Publix just won’t tell anyone no!!

Ever for years

I see non-service animals in the produce section all the time I inquire about it bring it to the managers attention I am openly told they’re not allowed to say anything

It’s a joke

I’ve been proud of Walmart towing the line

They are the only ones doing so out here in the Butler Plaza area

It’s just the Walmart Sam’s won’t even stop

You

Guest

Even after it being made mandatory?

Guest

Leave your groceries.... once they realize they're losing money too, they'll enforce it! Saw it happen at Family Dollar.

Guest

That’s what I told the manager at Publix and Trader Joe’s and they said they could not do anything. The hunters Crossing Publix stopped putting out hand wipes because people were stealing it. Funny everybody else has them.

GuestMary

It is rude and thoughtless to expose others to the virus that you might be, even unknowingly, carrying. It jeopardizes especially the very people trying to serve you.

Guest

sad that so many take much for granted, you cant have freedom and all the trimmings if we dont look out for self and neighbors.

Guest

It doesn’t help that people who are wearing masks are wearing them around their neck or with nose exposed. Might as well not be wearing one. No wonder the numbers are skyrocketing.

Guest

Exactly!! Every dang McDonald's, the employees have masks on their chins! Then they pull it up when they open the window. 🤔🤔🤔Sooooo...... contaminating my food is cool??? No. Logic. At. All.
