Gelati dessert truck B’z Gelati is celebrating the grand opening of a permanent storefront in Gainesville on Saturday with exclusive Italian ice and ice cream flavors and giveaways.

Known as “The Hive,” B’z’s new location at 1130 NW 23rd Ave. shares space with Baloo’s Donuts and Coffee, which B’z owner Brandon Grabhorn opened in 2024.

The Hive’s grand opening day and week will feature buy-one-get-one specials, gelati flavors crafted especially for the celebration, a daily drawing to win five free small gelatis, a chalk art station for kids and University of Florida (UF) Gator swag giveaways.

The Hive will be open from 2 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

B’z will also continue serving the community through its two food trucks, Queen Bee and Lil Honey, for catering and private events. Its Turlington Plaza Food Court storefront “where Gators chomp dessert” on UF’s campus (1701 Stadium Rd.) will also remain open from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

“The Hive marks a major milestone for the local favorite, offering a home base for the signature, homemade honey-sweetened gelati that has captivated Gainesville since 2018,” said B’z in a press release.

Gelati was a regular treat for Grabhorn growing up in Orlando. While studying business at UF, he noticed a need for the sweet Italian ice and ice cream-fused treat in Gainesville and developed a business plan during his senior year for his own shop.

After graduating in 2018, Grabhorn purchased the necessary machines and equipment to start crafting the recipes he now serves with a goal of spreading kindness and love to the community with every gelati.

Unlike other gelati shops that use soft serve ice cream, B’z Gelati crafts fresh, homemade ice cream using unfiltered organic honey and layers it with homemade Italian ice, according to the release.

One food truck eventually turned into two before B’z opened its Turlington storefront in the fall of 2025. Now, B’z will set up shop on NW 23rd Ave.

“We are super excited, on March 28th, we will open our permanent storefront, ‘The Hive,’” Grabhorn said in an email to Mainstreet. “We will continue to operate all other channels to accommodate our catering and customer base.”
