Florida gas prices drop slightly

Gas Pumps

Florida pump prices have fallen since last week and national prices continue to decrease.

According to Monday’s AAA weekly report, the national average price per gallon decreased nine cents to $3.79. In Florida, the average went from $3.40 to $3.35 and from $3.43 to $3.41 in Gainesville.

“Global recession fears coupled with the Biden Administration’s plan to continue tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve into December has helped temper oil prices,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said in a statement. “This will help take the pressure off pump prices, benefitting drivers and their wallets.”

According to the AAA weekly report on Monday, gas demand increased from 8.28 million barrels per day (b/d) to 8.68 b/d last week. If low demand continues to stay and oil prices don’t spike, then the pump prices will likely decrease.

Florida has the eighth least expensive average price at $3.35 per gallon. A month ago, the average cost was $3.37; last year, it was $3.31.
