East Gainesville’s vintage toy store, bar and music venue GEEKS is celebrating its first anniversary this weekend with exclusive sales and a three-day music festival featuring local and touring bands.
The celebration kicks off on Friday at GEEKS (2603 NE 17th Ter.) with a free show from The New Eagles playing classic punk covers, along with Chimes and Trash The Rental. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Doors open again at 5 p.m. on Saturday for performances from Dikembe, I.Liedtomyself, Tides, Bad Dog and Hey! TV Boy! Attendees can arrive at Sunday’s show featuring Zeta, Orbiter and The Yaupon Holly starting at 3 p.m.
Advance tickets for Saturday and Sunday are $15 and tickets at the door are $20. A food truck will be on site for the festival. Tickets are available online at geeksGNV.com.
“Come on out, it’s Labor Day weekend, lots of fun hanging out at GEEKS,” said Tony Wienbender in a post on the store’s Facebook page.
According to a press release, Wienbender founded GEEKS with a mission to create a space where nostalgia, music and community could unite.
The store off NE 23rd Avenue offers hundreds of vintage toys and collectibles designed to take guests of all ages on a trip down memory lane, from beloved childhood favorites to obscure finds and toy lines they’ve never seen before. Think Fisher-Price, Funko, Marvel, Mattel, G.I. Joe and even vintage clothing, glassware, board games and home goods.
The outdoor event stage and bar surrounded by live oaks provide a space for guests to enjoy live music and order beverages.
Exclusively for the anniversary celebration, GEEKS will offer discounts from 20% to 50% off items in the vintage room, BOGO Funko and DVDs, and a free tote or t-shirt for customers who spend $25 or more.
A weekly Karaoke Night will also kick off at the shop from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday will also kick off at the shop on Sept. 3, ahead of GEEKS’ anniversary.
