MARC Radio expands into Florida Space Coast

WSBH 98.5 The Beach The Space Coast's Greatest Hits
MARC Radio Group recently acquired WSBH 98.5 The Beach radio station.

MARC Media Group announced expansion plans into Florida’s Space Coast, adding WSBH The Beach 98.5 to its group of Florida stations.

Florida-owned MARC Media operates seven Gainesville/Ocala stations—WDVH R&B 94.5, WHHZ The Buzz 100.5, WXJZ Classic Hits 100.9, WTMG Magic 101.3, WPLL I Am Country 106.9 and the Shepherd 96.3/103.5. MARC Media also owns WIWA 1270 AM in Orlando, which airs the Shepherd format, and earlier this year acquired KGGR 1040 AM/106.9 FM in Dallas, Texas.

Dave Cobb, executive vice president of MARC, said the company has no planned changes for the staff or format at its latest acquisition.

“We’re impressed with the caliber of The Beach team and the quality of the product they consistently deliver to the Space Coast,” Cobb said in a press release. “Our goal is to help them with the tools they need to reach even more listeners and advertisers as we grow this station together.”

He added that the purchase, scheduled for the first quarter of 2023, will make MARC Media a coast-to-coast broadcaster in Florida. WSBH 98.5 The Beach radio station, known as the “Space Coast’s Greatest Hits,” is located in Melbourne.

Horizon Broadcasting LLC bought the station 16 years ago, but with the sale, the company will leave the radio industry, the press release said.

“The team at 98.5 The Beach has an outstanding track record as a market leader in both ratings and revenue,” Cobb said. “This is a great opportunity for MARC to expand our radio footprint into one of the fastest growing markets in the country.”

MARC Media started in 2011 and also owns Mainstreet Daily News and Shout It Outdoors, an advertising company.

“Horizon’s core values include treating our people like family to serve the local broadcasting community,” Jay Meyers, the agent representing Horizon, said in the release. “We are excited to be handing off this great radio station to MARC, a company that truly shares those values.”
