A special exception application for a major utility and solar energy collection facility known as Sand Bluff Solar Project will be discussed tonight (Nov. 17th) at 6 p.m. during a neighborhood workshop.

The 450-acre project proposed by Gainesville Regional Utilities and Origis Energy is intended to be built on an Alachua County parcel located on SW County Road 346 and bordered to the east by SW 107th Street.

According to the notice sent to affected Archer residents, “The purpose of the workshop is to inform the public about the nature of the proposal to seek their comments.”

The meeting will be hosted virtually by CHW Professional Consultants of Gainesville.

The parcel’s current Future Land Use category is Rural/Agriculture and zoned as Agriculture.

According to a statement released by Origis Energy, “The 50 MW solar plant, coupled with a 12 MW energy storage facility, moves the City significantly closer to 100 percent renewable energy resources by 2045.”

The project represents the first utility-scale solar and storage project in the GRU service territory, according to the statement. “FL Solar 6 is slated for completion by late 2022. With the 50 MW turn-key solar plant online, GRU will be able to provide solar to customers without upward rate pressure.”
