Silver Airways will discontinue service from Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) to Fort Lauderdale Airport after Oct. 6, just over a year after opening the route.
The airline is also eliminating seven other routes according to AeroRoutes.com. Two flights from West Palm Beach to Tampa and to Nassau, Bahamas, will also end on Oct. 6.
Erin Porter, spokesperson for GNV, said the airport found out about the change late last week.
“[Silver Airways] cite aircraft availability and inability to get parts, engines, and support in a timely fashion for their ATR-72-600 aircraft,” Porter said in an email. “They are looking for a suitable replacement aircraft and we wish them well.”
Porter added that other carriers have also been impacted from supply disruptions. She said the Ft. Lauderdale flight filled an important niche in service for GNV, and the airport would continue to speak with airlines about service options in Gainesville.
“Silver definitely wants to improve their aircraft availability and on-time performance,” Porter said. “We commend them for focusing on their fleet issues, and we hope to see them return in the future.”
Besides Gainesville, Silver Airways will also no longer service West Palm Beach, Governors Harbour in the Bahamas and Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic.
Their GNV-FLL flights didn’t have good arr/dep times either.
My Godson, his family, and I need to fly to and from Ft. Lauderdale airport and Gainesville frequently.
Now what do we do?
Have to endure MIA??
Or use Delta and have to go up through Atlanta? This is not good.
