
Update (2:15 pm): Law enforcement confirmed the suspect who fired shots at Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday morning before barricading himself in an apartment at NW 9th Terrace has been killed.
The suspect fired additional shots at Alachua County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team personnel after firing a shot at ASCO deputies who attempted to serve him a warrant early Tuesday morning.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the use of deadly force by ASCO deputies, according to an ACSO release.

A person who fired at law enforcement Tuesday morning near UF is barricaded inside an apartment near NW 9th Street and University Avenue in Gainesville.
According to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) release, law enforcement was attempting to serve the suspect a felony narcotics warrant Tuesday morning in the 100 block of NW 9th Terrace when he fired a single shot at deputies. No one was injured as deputies started evacuating residents from the apartment building.
The suspect is contained to a single apartment and the ACSO SWAT team and hostage negotiators are on scene.
Law enforcement has closed West University Avenue from 8th Street to 10th Street and is asking people to avoid this area.
