A new food option will officially be welcomed at the University of Florida’s Reitz Union on Tuesday, as SONIC celebrates the grand opening of its location at 655 Reitz Union Dr.
The one-hour celebration will kick off at 1:30 p.m., with a ribbon cutting by UF and its food service partner, Florida Fresh Dining, which is part of Chartwells Higher Education.
During the event, attendees will also be able to spin the prize wheel for an opportunity to win exclusive SONIC-branded swag – while supplies last – with no purchase required.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome SONIC to campus,” Brandi Renton, vice president for Business Affairs at the University of Florida, said in a SONIC press release. “SONIC brings an exciting new dining experience to the Reitz Union that captures the energy and variety of campus life, giving students even more options to enjoy their favorite meals, drinks, and slushes right in the heart of Gator Nation.”
The restaurant is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Customers can place their orders at the counter, through a kiosk, or via Transact Mobile Ordering.
The menu at the Reitz Union location offers a variety of options, including cheeseburgers, hot dogs, crispy chicken tenders, chicken bites and more.
According to the release, the new SONIC at UF is the restaurant’s third location in Gainesville, with stores also on SW Archer Road (6421 SW Archer Ave.) and NW 39th Avenue (2162 NW 39th Ave.).
