Hawthorne will start seeing some activity along U.S. Highway 301 just south of town at the end of January as construction begins on a new Tractor Supply Company.
Sue Nicosia, realtor with Nicosia Realty, said the company had its eye on the land for a while and was getting all the documents in place before the sale of the property on Jan. 14.
“It’s a great location,” Nicosia said. “They’ll be getting business from all over.”
The project went before the Hawthorne Planning and Zoning Board in October and November 2021 for approval, and the board voted unanimously in favor.
The closest Tractor Supply to Hawthorne is in Gainesville, about 20 miles away, with another location in Palatka. Other area stores include Starke, Williston, Chiefland and Newberry.
In a Facebook post, Hawthorne Commissioner Matt Surrency confirmed the store’s development and asked people not to forget local businesses.
“I encourage everyone to continue supporting home grown businesses and then go to the corporate stores for the items that aren’t otherwise available locally at current stores,” Surrency said.
