ACSO arrests Eastside bomb threat suspects

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) arrested an Eastside High School student Wednesday morning in connection with two of the three recent false bomb threats at the school.

ACSO reported Ta’Nasia Robinson, 16, of Gainesville, is facing two counts of making a false bomb threat, two counts of using a two-way communications device to commit a felony, and two counts of interfering with a school function for her alleged connection with the bomb threats on Tuesday and Sept. 28 bomb threats at Eastside High School.

ACSO detectives also arrested Eastside student Demarcus Payton, 15, of Gainesville on the same charges in connection with the Oct. 1 Eastside High bomb threat.

ASCO continues to investigate another bomb threat at Eastside—the fourth threat since Sept. 28—which came in at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The arrests come a day after the Gainesville Police Department took a Gainesville High School student into custody in connection for making false reports on planting a bomb at GHS on Monday and last Friday. Another GHS student was arrested last Friday for allegedly making a bomb threat at the high school on Sept. 29.

Last Friday, two Newberry High School students were arrested in connection with making bomb and mass shooting threats to Newberry schools and a Buchholz High School student was arrested on Sept. 13 in connection with two of the four bomb hoaxes BHS received between Aug. 19 and Sept. 3.

In all, six Alachua County public schools have received 18 false bomb and/or mass shooting threats since Aug. 19. They have included Buchholz (four), Eastside (four), GHS (four), Newberry High (four), Oak View Middle School (one) and Newberry Elementary (one).

The mass wave of bomb hoaxes led area law enforcement to meet last Friday to address the recent violence in Alachua County. Alachua County Sheriff Clovis Watson Jr. announced the Buchholz suspect would be prosecuted as an adult and promised severe consequences for perpetrators.
