ACSO searching for Newberry armed robbery suspect

Alachua County Sheriff Office (ACSO) deputies are investigating an attempted robbery Sunday evening at the Family Dollar store located in the Hitchcock’s shopping center on West Newberry Road.

According to ACSO spokesperson Capt. Kaley Behl, the ACSO got a call at 8:37 p.m. that a suspect had entered the Family Dollar in Newberry with a gun and demanded money.

“The suspect fled the store on foot and is still at large,” Behl reported.

“Witnesses heard gunshots after the suspect fled the store,” according to Behl, who said no reports of anyone being shot have been made.

No traffic is being delayed or detoured at this time but deputies on the scene advise staying clear of the area.

On Nov. 22 the Family Dollar in Archer was robbed at gunpoint by two people wearing ski masks. That robbery was followed by a break-in and robbery on Nov. 26 of ArchAngel Gunsmithing and Outfitters in Newberry where the suspects, who also wore masks, stole more than $13,000 in items including five firearms.
