Multiple Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies responded to a false report of a shooting at Eastside High School in Gainesville on Tuesday morning.
According to an ACSO release, a call was received at 11:21 a.m. at the ACSO Combined Communications Center from a person who stated, “Send help, they are shooting.”
At the time of the call, two Alachua County school resource deputies were on campus and, upon being notified about the report, advised that neither one had heard gunshots, according to the release.
Multiple ASCO deputies responded to Eastside and, following a campus-wide search, it was learned that the call was a hoax.
ACSO is reminding the community that, per Florida Statute 790.163, it is a second-degree felony to falsely report the use of a firearm in a violent manner.
This incident is actively being investigated.
