Alachua County school bus with stop lights activated damaged in hit-and-run

Two Alachua County Public School buses were involved in collisions that left four injured Tuesday morning.

A gray Tahoe driven by a black male was involved in a hit-and-run with an Alachua County School District bus that was stopped with its lights and stop signs activated while dropping off children on State Road 222 on Thursday afternoon.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 48-year-old Gainesville man was driving the school bus and stopped at SR 222 and NW 69th Street with its lights and stop signs activated while dropping off children around 5 p.m.

While the bus was stopped, the gray Tahoe drove between the inside and outside westbound SR 222 lanes and continued westbound on SR 222. The bus driver was unable to get the SUV’s license plate information.

No children were harmed during the hit-and-run collision, but the school bus received minor damage. There were three juvenile students inside the school bus when it was hit.
