A terrorist suspect was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in Gainesville by law enforcement who were attempting to serve a felony warrant.

According to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) release, ACSO Warrants Investigator deputies, assisted by U.S. Marshals, were attempting to serve a felony warrant to Ali Bayhan, 38, for terrorist threats around 3 p.m.

Law enforcement surrounded a residence in the 1400 block of NW 35th Way that was known to be occupied by Bayhan. ACSO deputies then issued commands, using a public address (PA) system, for Bayhan to come out of the residence.

When Bayhan exited the residence, he was armed with a handgun visible in his waistband. Bayhan reportedly did not comply with deputies’ commands and, when he reached toward his waistband and grabbed the handgun, deputies shot him.

Aid was rendered to Bayhan, but he was pronounced dead on scene.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been requested to investigate the use of deadly force by deputies. The deputies involved in this incident have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with ACSO policy.

According to ACSO Capt. Chris Simms, more information will be given in a press release on Friday.
