A 15-year-old Buchholz High School student was arrested after threatening “to shoot up the school” on Monday in Gainesville.

According to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) release sent Tuesday, Rayonna Jones, 15, was arrested and charged with Written Threats to Conduct a Mass Shooting.

The incident started Monday around 2:44 pm. when a Buchholz school resource deputy was informed of alarming messages sent through a social media platform. The deputy discovered that the suspect said in the messages that she wanted to buy a gun “to shoot up the school 😊.”

The deputy went to Jones’s home to interview her, and Jones admitted to sending the messages. Jones told the deputy that she was frustrated about getting in trouble for skipping school and that she did not intend to carry out the threat.

Jones was arrested and transported to the Alachua Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
