Law enforcement is searching for an armed burglar who allegedly shot a homeowner on SW Michigan Street in Lake City on Monday morning.

According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) release, deputies responded to a call placed around 10:43 a.m. of a person shot on SW Michigan Street.

Upon arrival, deputies found a female victim lying in the yard in front of an apartment. The victim said she came home from shopping and entered her apartment to find a tall male dressed in dark clothing standing inside. The suspect then shot her.

A perimeter was established around the apartments and surrounding area and a shelter-in-place was issued by CCSO on its Facebook page and via the Columbia County Emergency Management systems.

The CCSO and Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams entered the residence and did not locate the shooter.

The CCSO is asking anyone around SW Marion Street, SW Ponce De Leon Avenue, SW Michigan Street and SW Maryland Lane to review any doorbell, home security or dash cams from this morning. If anything suspicious is viewed, a subject is seen running by your residence or through your yard matching this description, or you have information regarding this crime, please contact CCSO at 386-719-2005.
