Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) detectives are investigating a suspicious death after a body was discovered Tuesday afternoon.
According to a CCSO release, deputies responded to the area of NE Gum Swamp Road west of NE Range Road around 3 p.m. to the report of a body found by a citizen. Deputies confirmed the deceased individual and suspected foul play.
The CCSO forensics team and detectives are investigating the scene and working to identify the victim.
“We understand the public’s interest and concern in these types of situations,” Columbia County Mark Hunter said in a statement. “We have a lot of questions we need to answer before we can release further information to the public. We ask for patience and cooperation while we work to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
