Lake City police arrest correctional officer for attempted murder

A Columbia County correctional officer who shot at his wife was arrested Sunday on attempted murder charges.

According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, LCPD officers responded to a residence following a call from a neighbor on Sunday.

When officers arrived, the neighbor stated the victim had an argument with their spouse, who was identified as Rance Park. Park had a firearm and made threats to shoot the victim.

LCPD officers established a perimeter and instructed Park to exit the residence and walk toward them. After walking to a certain point, Rance stopped and said he would not come any closer and refused to comply with additional commands.

When Park saw the officers’ TASERS, he ran away. Officers subdued Park without further incident.

Officers discovered Park made threats to shoot the victim and the victim’s child. He physically struck the victim multiple times and fired two shots at the victim twice.

Park was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated child abuse, firing a weapon in public/residential property, battery and obstruction without violence. He was transported to the was transported to Columbia County Detention Facility.
