A Dade City man has been sentenced to 50 years in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) for his role in a 2024 robbery that left a Gainesville man paralyzed.
According to a State Attorney’s Office press release sent Monday, Assistant State Attorney Christopher Elsey led the prosecution in the case against Jose E. Galindo, 25, who was convicted by an Alachua County jury in July 2026 of robbery with a firearm and attempted felony murder.

The charges stemmed from an Oct. 5, 2024, shooting at 6519 W. Newberry Road in Gainesville. Gainesville Police officers responded to the location after receiving a report of a person being shot.
According to the Gainesville Police Department investigation, Galindo shot an adult male victim while committing a robbery. The shooting left the victim paralyzed.
Judge Denise Ferrero presided over the trial and found Galindo guilty.
Ferrero sentenced Galindo to 50 years in the FDOC for robbery with a firearm, including the 25-year minimum mandatory sentence required under Florida’s 10/20/Life law, followed by lifetime probation. Galindo also received a 50-year sentence for attempted felony murder, to run concurrently with the robbery sentence.
The court also ordered Galindo to pay $2,099,900 in restitution to the victim.
