The preliminary investigation determined that the Ford F-150 was traveling west on U.S. Highway 90 when it struck the passenger side of the Chrysler minivan, which was turning at the intersection. Witnesses reported that the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision.

The driver of the Ford left the scene before officers arrived. Investigators identified the driver as Jaron Carr, 32, of Lake City, and located him a short time later. He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and driving while license suspended or revoked.

Carr was detained and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center. He is also being held on active warrants from Missouri and Brevard County, Florida. Additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact LCPD at 386-752-4343. Anonymous tips may be submitted through the LCPD TIPS line at 386-719-2068 or Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at 386-754-7099.
