Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASCO) detectives arrested 18-year-old Terrell Weeks for the alleged shooting death of 24-year-old Tyren Certain at Eastwood Meadows on Monday.
According to an ACSO report sent on Wednesday, Weeks was taken into custody after the shooting on two outstanding warrants for possession of a weapon or ammo by a delinquent male. He is being charged with murder and is being held in the Alachua County Jail.
On Monday, deputies responded to 918 SE 44th Street in Gainesville around 4:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls from residents hearing gunfire.
The callers stated there was a subject slumped inside a dark colored sedan parked near the apartment mailboxes. When deputies arrived, they found Certain suffering from a gunshot wound.
Alachua County Fire Rescue emergency responders transported Certain to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Another senseless tragedy,” said Alachua County Sheriff Emery Gainey in the release. “If you decide to arm yourself and chose violence in our county, we are going to hold you accountable. Weeks is an 18-year-old young man that has been adjudicated in the past as an adult for gun crimes. Violent acts with firearms will end with you in my jail.”
