Florida Highway Patrol searching for suspect in fatal hit-and-run

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is calling on the public to help identify the driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident that left a Live Oak man dead Friday night.

According to FHP, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on County Road 349 just south State Road 51, which is near Live Oak in Suwannee County.

FHP reported that a “pedestrian/bicyclist,” a male of unspecified age, was traveling southbound on County Road 349 when a southbound vehicle struck him from behind. FHP did not specify whether the victim died at the scene or was transported to a hospital, but the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene.

“This investigation is ongoing and we are asking for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed or have information about this crash, or if you live on County Road 349 in this area and may have helpful video footage of passing vehicles,” FHP reported. “The suspect vehicle may have right front damage.”

FHP said persons with information about the incident may call Crime Stoppers or Corporal Hughes at 386-754-6270.

How can anyone just leave a human being to die by the side of the road? How can they live with themselves? I have a young girl in my life whose mother was hit and killed by a driver who just left her there to die. The daughter was just 14 months old.
