A Fort White man was arrested on Thursday after shooting another man in the head.
According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) release, deputies responded to Cullen Avenue in Fort White to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a white male victim with a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital by Columbia County emergency responders and he is in critical condition.
The suspect, Johnny McNutt, 53, of Fort White, was detained by arriving deputies without incident. McNutt admitted to the deputies that he shot the victim.
The investigation is ongoing and preliminary findings reveal that the two men had a physical altercation on Thursday. Following the altercation, McNutt retrieved a firearm and reapproached the victim, who was seated in a chair. McNutt then fired a single gunshot at the head of the victim.
McNutt was arrested and is being held on charges of attempted second-degree murder.
