Gainesville police arrest 18-year-old for attempted murder

An 18-year-old was arrested Wednesday night for attempted murder in Northeast Gainesville.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers responded to the 1100 block of NE 24th Street around 10:45 p.m. to the report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, the officers found the victim and provided medical assistance until the Alachua County Fire Rescue arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital with a reported non-life-threatening injury.

During the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Kelvin Baker, 18. Baker was located and taken into custody without incident and was charged with attempted murder.

Baker is being held in the Alachua County Jail on no bond.
