Gainesville suspect arrested for murder of man on NE 16th Avenue

Gainesville police arrested a suspect who got into a physical altercation with a man he allegedly murdered in the area of 200 NE 16th Ave. on Wednesday morning.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers and detectives received a call around 11:30 a.m. of a white male found dead in a grassy area between two commercial buildings near 200 NE 16th Ave.

During the investigation, GPD detectives, using a surveillance video showing the physical altercation between the suspect and victim, identified the suspect as 33-year-old Romanda Thompson of Gainesville.

Thompson was arrested and charged with first degree murder and is being held at the Alachua County Jail without bond.
