A Gainesville jury on Wednesday found Jaileen Damaris Pagan, 27, guilty of vehicular homicide after hitting and killing pedestrian Garry Pugh at Butler Plaza in 2023.
Pagan will be sentenced on Sept. 3 and face a potential maximum of 45 years.
The trial lasted three days, with prosecution led by assistant state attorneys David Margulies and Cameron Life.
The incident occurred on Sept. 15, 2023, when a 2010 Hyundai Sonata hit Pugh and then fled the scene. According to a press release, law enforcement found the vehicle and connected it to Pagan, who was also connected to a theft from Walmart.
She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and not having a valid driver’s license along with the homicide.
