GPD arrests 2 in Chevron parking lot shooting

Update (March 27, 4:45 p.m.) Gainesville Police Department spokesperson David Chudzik said in an email to Mainstreet Daily News that only one of the two suspects in the Sunday morning shooting in the Chevron parking lot was arrested and it was determined that he was not the shooter. He was a juvenile arrested for illegally possessing a firearm.


Chudzik said the second person detained by officers was questioned and released and that GPD is still searching for the assailant.

Two suspects were arrested after a Chevron parking lot shooting Sunday morning left one person in critical condition.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) social media post, officers responded to a shooting that occurred at 1100 W. University Ave. at 4:40 a.m. where they found a large crowd in an altercation.

During the fight, one suspect shot the victim in the abdomen.

Emergency responders transported the victim as a trauma alert and, as of Sunday at 4 p.m. in a GPD update, he remained in the ICU.

GPD officers arrested two suspects.
