A seven-plus hour standoff ended Monday morning when Gainesville Police arrested a stabbing suspect who barricaded himself inside his home.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers were sent to 100 SW 40th St. at 2:35 a.m. in reference to a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found an adult victim with cuts on his arm. The investigation revealed Ronald Corey Shultz, 27, as the suspect who allegedly stabbed the victim. Shultz was alone inside his residence and armed with firearms.

Officers contacted Shultz at the front door or his home, but Shultz refused to come outside. Shultz opened the door multiple times and was armed with a pistol and shotgun.

GPD Specialty Units and GPD SWAT teams responded to the scene and GPD Emergency Services Team provided safety while the GPD Negotiations Response Team communicated with Shultz. An arrest warrant was obtained for aggravated battery (domestic) and aggravated assault along with a search warrant for the residence.

After seven-plus hours of negotiating with Shultz, the suspect exited the residence unarmed and was arrested.
