The Gainesville Police SWAT team arrested a suspect on Wednesday who allegedly shot a victim at a Chevron gas station Tuesday night.
According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, at 8:48 p.m. on Tuesday, the University of Florida Police Department requested assistance from GPD in reference to a victim who was dropped off at UF Shands Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
GPD officers found the crime scene at the Chevron gas station at 1516 SE 4th Street and discovered that Zakee L. Koon, 39, was identified as the alleged shooter.
Around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the GPD SWAT and Negotiation Response Team (NRT) responded to the crime scene and around 10 a.m., Koon was spotted in the area around 1900 SE 4th Street.
When seeing the officers, Koon fled on foot and barricaded himself inside an apartment. NRT contacted Koon and negotiated his surrender. After three hours, Koon was taken into custody by the GPD SWAT team.
The victim is in critical condition and detectives are investigating the incident.
